set your bones in clay, part ii

You can probably see better views here, on my Flickr.

Today, this is not an outfit post. Instead, it's an art post! Sorry for whoever was expecting me decked out in clothes, haha. With no where to go, and loss of my scenery, it's very hard for me to attempt to photograph what I swear. My grandmother moved into our basement, my portal of access to the backyard where I photograph myself. Now, she doesn't know what I do (blog) because if she did, she'd probably call the cops certain that I'm being preyed upon by some creeper. You guys aren't creepers (at least, I hope!) so I wouldn't want anything like that to happen, haha. She's a cute old lady though, promise!

Anyways, this particular set of doodles belong to my 2011 planner! The outside sort of makes me think of what Gryffindor students' planners would look like. Or maybe that's just me. But I'm more of a Hufflepuff, to be honest.

The line "set your bones in clay" is from the song Hometown Hooray by White Hinterlands (which you can check out here), a band that I'm currently obsessing over. The vocals seem sort of ghostly, but it's so enchanting at the same time. One of my favorite songs by White Hinterlands happen to be "Icarus", so you should definitely check them out! I can't find the official video (and I'm not sure if there even is one for this song, but here's a video you can listen to).

And this was done with regular colored markers (like Crayola, haha) and colored pencils, a blue Bic pen, and a black Bic pen. So yes! That's the method to my madness. NO PENCIL. EVER.

the small object thumbprint notecard set

This adorable notecard set by Sarah Neuburger was one of the scores that I picked up on Black Friday from the sale section of Urban Outfitters (I picked up a dress for 9.99 and a cardigan from the men's section for 9.99 as well!). It was a spontaneous purchase, and I realize it was a really good investment. I got it for $9.99 when it usually retails for about $17.

But other than the financial bargain, I realized that since a lot of my friends went away to college, I've lost contact with some of them and sending handwritten letters are definitely the best thing anyone could ask for if they're away. So, I resolve to write more letters! In this day and age, where we communicate electronically and digitally, I feel that having handwritten letters and cards is definitely a welcomed surprise. It's more...personal, I guess. Does anyone else feel the same?

Hopefully I'll be able to afford some stamps. I never really know how many to put on an envelope, haha.

But they're so much fun. You get to use your thumb print and make little characters and, in hind sight, I should've bought a second one as well! I got so into the cuteness of the set that I made a stop motion! Hopefully it doesn't make you dizzy, haha.

lazy sundays + a layout change

Hey Bloggers! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend! And for those who still observe Day Light Savings, remember to adjust your clocks! I thought I traveled back in time yesterday as I was up at 2 A.M. I had to recheck everything to make sure I wasn't going crazy!

So I spent the majority of the day watching the Law and Order: Special Victims Unit marathon and painting! I've decided that my room is much too bare and it needed a bit of an artistic influence. Plus, I've been wanting to explore the medium of acrylic paints for a while now. I need a challenge to keep me motivated through these drab winter months.

So far, this painting isn't finished yet, but I wanted to show you guys my progress. Any artists out there are welcome to critique it!

And I updated the layout of my blog! I'd love to hear some feedback from you guys. I get a little stir crazy and I had the need for change, so if any of you don't like something or it isn't compatible in your browser, please let me know so I can do my best to fix it!

Done with acrylics, a bit of watercolors, and a sharpie pen!

Lazy Sunday Outfit Details (if anyone cares to know!):
my brother's sweatshirt - Billabong from Pacsun
blue leggings - American Apparel
blue slippers - Dearfoams

November!

So it's officially November guys! In lieu of finding a new awesome site, Calndrs, a creative community of designers who rethink the typical calendar and bring it right to your desktop, I decided to submit one of my creations!

Everything is handdrawn with my tablet on Photoshop, except for the numbers and the days of the week! The size is rather large, so you guys can download it and resize it to your liking. It'd be nice to link back to me if you're going to be using it for any other purpose besides on your desktop! :)

Happy November, guys! :)

Random Doodles

I know it's not good to just let me mind wander off in class, but I often find myself doing so and coming up with the weirdest little scribbles and doodles!

Inspired by Lady Gaga's Bad Romance music video! Haha. This was last year, I think sometime in November. I might be mistaken. I never properly date my work! Done with a regular Staples blue pen.

Inspired by Weezer's song The Prettiest Girl In The Whole Wide World. Done with a regular Staples blue pen, again. I don't really know, haha. Done in December 2009.

* The drawings after the jump contain nudity, so be warned! Rated R! *

I really like drawing birds for some reason. And bird is slang for a girl, so I decided to just draw them nude, haha so they could sort of meld into the birds. Done with a regular Staples black pen.

Just experimenting with the female mammary gland. No particular reason. Staples black pen again! Haha. I wish I could afford nicer pens.
This one is done with a black pen, again, from Staples. I was dozing off in one of my lecture classes, so I decided to do a sort of 'dream sequence' sort of doodle? It's unfinished, but I double I'm going to go back and finish it.

Well, that's it for now! I have tons of other stuff I should probably include in this post, but I'm a bit too lazy to scour my files for my old art. I hope you guys enjoyed it! I'd love some constructive criticism!
